Columbia Journalism School Alumni Awarded ICFJ's Bringing Home the World Fellowship

We are pleased to announce that two Columbia Journalism School alumni, Adrian Ma (M.S. '16) and Maya Srikrishnan (M.S. '14), have been selected as 2019 Bringing Home the World Fellows by the International Center for Journalists. The Bringing Home the World Fellowship sends U.S. minority journalists overseas to cover stories that resonate with their local communities. The Fellowship aims to support diverse new voices and fresh perspectives on underreported global issues, and advance minority journalists’ careers. We congratulate our alumni for their achievement and look forward to the stories based on their ambitious fellowship projects.

Adrian Ma is a 2016 graduate of the Master of Science Program. As a reporter at public radio station WCPN/ideastream in Cleveland, he covers business, work, and the regional economy. He is also a regular contributor to American Public Media’s Marketplace, and has reported on predatory housing contracts, school security products, and speed-dating economists. As a Bringing Home the World Fellow, he will follow a soybean’s journey from a Midwest farm to a Chinese table, stopping along the way to learn about the people and processes that make the journey possible.

Maya Srikrishnan is a 2014 graduate of the Master of Science Program and earned a dual degree from the Columbia School of International and Public Affairs. Currently a reporter for Voice of San Diego, she reports on the U.S.-Mexico border and immigration issues. She also writes a bi-weekly newsletter about the Tijuana-San Diego border region, The Border Report. As a Bringing Home the World Fellow, she will explore the role of human networks in migration by delving into how the connections Honduran migrants have to people already in the United States – the family, friends or acquaintances who have migrated before them – factor into their decisions to migrate.
