Ben Taub, M.A. Program Alumnus, is Honored For His New Yorker Article "Shallow Graves"

We are proud to share that a New Yorker article by Columbia Journalism School Master of Arts Program alumnus Ben Taub has been awarded a 2018 George Polk Award for Magazine Journalism and named a finalist for the 2019 National Magazine Award for Reporting.   

Taub, a 2015 graduate of the Master of Arts Program, Politics Concentration, is being honored for his December 2018 New Yorker article "Shallow Graves," which explored how the Iraq government's cruel treatment of suspected jihadis and their families could stoke a resurgence of the terror group ISIS in the country. In a New Yorker video, Taub recently discussed the process of reporting the piece. Now a staff writer at The New Yorker, Taub began his career at the magazine in 2015, when it published a cover story based on his Columbia Journalism School master's thesis about European teenagers who chose to join ISIS.
