Professor Alisa Solomon Receives 2022 NEH Public Scholars Grant

Alisa Solomon, a renowned arts and culture critic and professor of journalism at Columbia, recently received a 2022 National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Public Scholars Grant for her new book project about St. Vincent’s Hospital, one of New York City's battlegrounds during the AIDS crisis of the 1980s and 1990s. Professor Solomon directs and teaches in the Master of Arts Program's Arts and Culture Concentration and also teaches such Master of Science Program classes as "Covering Issues of Gender and Sexuality" and "Criticism Workshop." Channing Gerard Joseph ('05 M.S.) Named a 2022 TED Fellow

Channing Gerard Joseph, a 2005 graduate of Columbia's Master of Science Program, was recently named a 2022 TED Fellow. TED Fellows are selected "for their remarkable achievements, the potential impact of their work and their commitment to community building." Joseph is a journalist and queer culture historian who is currently working on the book House of Swann about William Dorsey Swann, an African-American man born into slavery who became the world's first self-described "drag queen" and the leader of possibly the world's earliest-known gay liberation organization.
